Dartmoor Invasive Species Project – Himalayan Balsam Bashing

6 July, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm BST

Thursday 6; Wednesday 12; Wednesday 19; Thursday 27 July; Thursday 3; Wednesday 9; Wednesday 23 August: Dartmoor Invasive Species Project in the Avon at South Brent. It’s that time of year again with the Himalayan balsam just about to come into flower in several places. Following his survey for Dartmoor National Park, ecologist Mervyn Newman, is organising volunteer days to pull up Himalayan balsam again in Brent catchment area again. Himalayan Balsam usually pulls out of the ground easily and we have had great success working through the local area.

We will be meeting at 10 am with lunch and other breaks before stopping at 3 pm.

Please let Mervyn know if you would like to volunteer for the balsam days/half days or if you would like to come along on a particular day –  invasives@dartmoor.gov.uk or call 07927 045042, and he will send you out the joining details. Please dress for Dartmoor and bring gloves, drinks and lunch.

Mervyn is also organising volunteer days to pull up Himalayan balsam in The West Dart Headwaters and the Wray Brook at Lustleigh.

This is not an SSB event, but SSB supports the DNPA Invasive Species Project
