The seeds of SSB as an organisation were sown via a series informal meetings and conversations in 2006. It was established as an Unincorporated Association with an interim constitution on 27 June 2007, subsequently becoming a Company on 9 July 2010, and eventually a Charity on 20 January 2012.
The organisation promotes and delivers actions, projects and initiatives that encourage public participation in helping to ensure the long term sustainability and character of the local area, at the same time increasing social cohesion and developing skill sets in the community.
This means:
- meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs
- conserving and protecting the physical and natural environment, mitigating against the effects of climate change and impacting directly upon energy use.
Our aims are set down formally as ‘objects’ in our ‘Articles of Association’ and are also reflected in SSB’s current ‘vision statement’ which, following a members’ survey and extensive consultations, was initially launched at the 2021 AGM, and refined by a further resolution at the 2023 AGM:
“Creating a resilient, low-carbon community, where all life thrives”
SSB will achieve this by continuing our current innovative projects as well as creating new strategic focal points of Energy and Transport.
We welcome everyone in our community to be Inspired and Empowered to Collaborate with us in achieving this vision .
