Tuesday Fair Share at Palstone Park Rec.

The Tuesday Fair Share (TFS) redistributes surplus food from the charity, Fareshare, to the community of South Brent. It runs every Tuesday afternoon at Palstone Park Recreation pavilion between 2.30 – 4pm, providing an opportunity for residents of South Brent and the surrounding area to access affordable, good quality surplus (in date) produce, minimising food waste and landfill.

Everyone is welcome; You’ll be asked to check in each time, and there is a suggested donation of £3.50. (The food is free but we need to pay transport and rent). For that you can get at least 10 items of food and groceries, from a selection of produce that changes every week and includes a selection of fruit and vegetables and store cupboard essentials. If you feel you would like to donate more than £3.50 you are welcome to. There is free parking on site at the Rec.

We have fresh fruit and vegetables, food cupboard basics like bread and pasta and a range of refrigerated meals and dairy products. There are usually free hygiene products and often free fruit and vegetables from local farms and gardens. There are free refreshments and at least three homemade cakes and biscuits to choose from each week and even a toy area. TFS has become an important fixture in people’s weeks: everyone loves the care and attention they get from a dedicated group of enthusiastic volunteers.

In its first year (July 2024 – July 2025), TFS was a huge success. The new venture redistributed a HUGE 12,360 kg (12.36 tonnes) of food. This is the equivalent of 29,430 meals or 588.6 meals every week on average, saving the community an enormous £40,420. This amount continues to grow and since starting we have more than doubled the amount of food available each week from 100kg to 250Kg. Each week we welcome 40 – 50 people.

TFS could not operate this without the support of our partner and main supplier, Plymouth based Fareshare SouthWest, a national charity that redistributes surplus food from the food industry to community groups. Massive thanks to them for being so amazing and adding South Brent to its food redistribution work.

There are 12-14 of us most weeks helping out at TFS. If you would like to join us, you are most welcome. Its great fun.
