Sustainable South Brent’s Hedges and Woodland Group – The ‘Steepers’

We undertake conservation projects like hedge laying and woodland coppicing, as well as harvesting wood fuel, in and around South Brent. We enjoy the traditional skills and satisfaction of working outdoors together, while doing our bit to maintain diverse and healthy wildlife habitats. Our practical site work takes place fortnightly during the cutting season in autumn and winter to avoid disturbance to wildlife, while in the summer we have a wider programme of walks, visits, firewood processing, tool maintenance and outreach work. Newcomers are always welcome: we provide training and tools and equipment.

• Sunday 3 October 2021 Coppicing in Penstave Copse (10am-3pm)
• Friday 8 October 2021 Firewood processing (chunking) at the Marsh (10am-4pm)
• Sunday 17 October 2021 Hedgelaying & Coppicing in Penstave Copse (10am-3pm)
• Sunday 31 October 2021 Hedgelaying & Coppicing in Penstave Copse (10am-3pm)
• Sunday 14 November 2021 Hedgelaying & Coppicing in Penstave Copse (10am-3pm)
• Sunday 28 November 2021 Hedgelaying & Coppicing in Penstave Copse (10am-3pm)
• Sunday 12 December 2021 Tree planting in Penstave Copse (10am to 3pm)
