More Fruit Tree Care – Fitting Tree Guards in the new Community Orchard

3 May @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm BST

Sunday 3 May 2026: Call for volunteers to help fit the remaining Tree Guards in the new Community Orchard:

After the Thursday session of mulching the fruit trees and planting the rest of the potatoes, and taking advantage of the continuing good weather, this Sunday session will be for fitting the remaining tree guards.

Please bring a hammer and perhaps wire-cutters for fitting tree guards. Gloves would be useful, and wellies are essential because of the muddy, flooded gateway which we are doing our best to get resolved. And do bring drinks and snacks.

Please join us, and come and see the young fruit trees emerging into spring and producing their first blossom – exciting!

We hope to see you there.

And if you can’t make these dates, but would like to join the growing band of people who want to be involved in the market garden and orchard – either as a volunteer (we need many different kinds of skills and interests), or just as an interested supporter of this exciting new community project as it develops on site, please email us at: marketgarden@ssb.org.uk

Access to the Market Garden field site – on foot or by bike, but absolutely no cars – is along Palstone Lane then left down Portford Lane to a signposted entrance on the left – What3Words: extend.showed.spreading. If you are interested in helping on this day or for further information, please email marketgarden@ssb.org.uk;
