Thursday 6 January 2022 ‘Let’s Talk Rubbish’ at the ‘EcoPubHub’ from 00-9.30pm.
We all know we need to reduce our waste in order to live sustainably, but what does that mean in practical terms? – “Rethink; Refuse; Reduce; Reuse; Repair; Recycle”. SSB’s first ‘EcoPubHub’ to kick off the New Year has been organised by the ‘Talking Rubbish’ group and is a Zoom session to explore how changes in our every-day lives can make a big difference to our carbon footprint. Among the line-up of inspirational speakers are:
- Zac Goodall, one of the employee co-owners at Riverford, one of the largest local food producers, where he works on sustainability projects such as developing the company’s modern slavery policy and working on a carbon footprint project with Exeter University. Zac will talk to us about their packaging journey and future plans to reduce the impact that food packaging has on our environment. He also has an MSc in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture.
- Sarah Allen – zero-waste blogger, who will talk about, about her personal journey in getting as close to zero waste as possible. As well as a blog called ‘Rhubarb and Runner Beans’ and Facebook page, Sarah has written an eBook – ‘52 Tips to Reduce Waste: Save money, Lower your carbon footprint, consume less and be happier’ – one practical tip for every week of the year!
- Jacqui Winterburn from Suez, which manages the Ivybridge waste and recycling centre, will give us an insight into the management of all that stuff we throw away. She will also give us advice and guidance on what we can do as individuals and as a community to waste less and reuse more.
