SUMMARY:Living Well; Falling Apart
DESCRIPTION:How do I live well\, when it feels like the world is falling apart? \nAn online evening from 7.30 to 9.30pm. \nTime to slow down\, to reflect\, to share and explore\, and to be with the discomfort – amongst others. Anxious or hopeful? Despairing or determined? Confused or curious? Local\, National or Global? Legal or illegal? External or internal change? Inspired or burnt out? Action or rest? Nowhere to get to and no need to make choices or action plans. Just a chance to speak\, listen\, consider. To be with others and feel connected with a wider community. All welcome. This event was inspired by feelings and anxieties about the climate and environment. However\, we’ve come to realise it’s probably equally relevant to other challenging world events. \nThis event is not an SSB event\, but has been organised by a small group in Devon involved in local sustainability projects\, climate and environmental issues. Click here to register. Any questions – email discussions@itsorted.org.uk.

SUMMARY:‘Talking Rubbish’ at the  ‘EcoPubHub’
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 6 January 2022 (postponed from 7 October): ‘Let’s Talk Rubbish’ at the ‘EcoPubHub’ from 8.00-9.30pm. \nWe all know we need to reduce our waste in order to live sustainably\, but what does that mean in practical terms? – “Rethink; Refuse; Reduce; Reuse; Repair; Recycle”. SSB’s first ‘EcoPubHub’ to kick off the New Year has been organised by the ‘Talking Rubbish’ group and is a Zoom session to explore how changes in our every-day lives can make a big difference to our carbon footprint. Among the line-up of inspirational speakers are: \n\nZac Goodall\, one of the employee co-owners at Riverford\, one of the largest local food producers\, where he works on sustainability projects such as developing the company’s modern slavery policy and working on a carbon footprint project with Exeter University. Zac will talk to us about their packaging journey and future plans to reduce the impact that food packaging has on our environment. He also has an MSc in Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture.\nSarah Allen – zero-waste blogger\, who will talk about\, about her personal journey in getting as close to zero waste as possible. As well as a blog called ‘Rhubarb and Runner Beans’ and Facebook page\, Sarah has written an eBook – ‘52 Tips to Reduce Waste: Save money\, Lower your carbon footprint\, consume less and be happier’ – one practical tip for every week of the year!\n[Jacqui Winterburn from Suez\, which manages the Ivybridge waste and recycling centre\, will give us an insight into the management of all that stuff we throw away. She will also give us advice and guidance on what we can do as individuals and as a community to waste less and reuse more.]\nJacqui Winterburn is unable to attend and Bobby Hughes\, Senior Waste Management Officer at Devon County Council\, is kindly taking her place at short notice.\n\n \nJoin us! – Find out more and share your own experience \nRegister via eventbrite: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/talking-rubbish-at-the-ecopubhub-registration-169360019377 \nor scan the QR code

SUMMARY:Eco-Pub-Hub' - Greener Travel Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 6 May 2021: Greener Travel Workshop from 8-9.30pm. Zoom into the second ‘EcoPubHub’ session\, organized by SSB\, this time focusing on green travel. Join us for an informal evening exploring our transport options in a carbon neutral world! Transport is currently one of our biggest carbon contributors. We’ll discuss going electric\, pedal power\, car share\, public transport and more including: ‘Is my bike suitable for e bike conversion?’ (Bob Fitzgerald of Bob’s Bike Shed’); ‘The joy of e-bikes’ -How my e-bike changed my life (Lindsey Stewart et al); ‘My first electric car’ (Jeremy Sabel); ‘Is car-share for you?’ (John Severn); ‘Get on the bus!’ (Jude Bishop). \nPre-register at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/greener-travel-registration-149025476211 to get the information you need to join in (free to sign up\, donations are welcome). SUMMARY:Active Hope Course
DESCRIPTION:February – April 2021: Active Hope Course “Exploring how to face the mess we’re in without going crazy”. \nDates: Wednesday 24 February; Wednesday 3 March; Sunday 14 March; Wednesday 24 March; Sunday 28 March; and Wednesday 7 April 2021 (Wednesdays 6.30-8.45pm; Sundays 2-4.30pm) Sessions will be on-line on Zoom but COVID permitting there will be a later half day ‘Council of All Beings’ workshop outdoors. \nA six week training with a small group of people\, sharing our gratitude for life\, our human responses to this environmental crisis\, and envisaging how to move forwards inspired\, resilient and courageous. This workshop is a safe place to be with our feelings\, helping us to stay grounded\, connected and responsive to what’s happening in our lives\, our communities and our world. Unless we have spaces to feel our responses to the destruction in our world\, we can easily feel paralysed or numb – and not take the necessary action to prevent more harm. \nThe course of workshops is based on the work of Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone\, recently revised (2020) to address the urgent crisis our world is in. The group will be co-facilitated by Jeannie Hodder and John Betts. \nThis work is an offering from the facilitators but those who wish to make a donation at the end of the course may do so. This is not a requirement of attendance. Participants are expected to commit to the whole course. Spaces are limited (approx 14 places) so booking is essential. To make a booking or for more information\, please contact: Jeannie: coaching@jhodder.co.uk or John: mail@johnbetts.net. In your email\, please include a few sentences about why you want to join and what you hope to achieve from joining the group. \n
