DESCRIPTION:Thursday 26 October 2023: Talk on ‘The Breeding Birds of Nunavut‘ by Dave Scott organised by Brent Birders at 7:30pm in the Old School Community Centre. \nDave is an artist and photographer based in South Brent where he runs a small bird rehabilitation centre.  He is a licensed bird ringer\, and his life is immersed in wildlife oriented activities which give him the daily inspiration for his paintings and photographs. He is also lucky enough to have travelled to some of the most beautiful places on the planet in search of his subjects (see: www.dascottartist.com/). \nDave will be known to many in Brent for his previous talks for Brent Birders. \nNunavut is in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and is the largest and northernmost territory of Canada \n  \nNB. This is not an SSB event\, but has been organised by Brent Birders \nThis is the 10th year of the Brent Bird Survey and the report of the May 2023 Brent Bird Survey is now on the website at brentbirdsurvey.co.uk. The next survey will be in January 2024 – please do participate. DESCRIPTION:Saturday 26 November: Free Tree Giveaway at the Old School Community Centre between 10am & 12noon. Come and collect between one and five trees to plant in your garden! A range of broadleaf\, native trees and shrubs will be available first come\, first served. \nThis ‘tree hub’ day is being run by Sustainable South Brent with the trees provided by Devon Wildlife Trust. It is part of the wider ‘Saving Devon’s Treescapes’ partnership which is a response to the impact of Ash Dieback disease. The trees will all be small nursery transplants 20-40cm tall\, each provided with a cane and spiral guard as well as a planting and aftercare guide. \nJust turn up on the day – the event will run until all the trees are gone. The trees can also be planted in a field\, paddock or orchard if you have one. \nAny enquiries to woodgroup@ssb.org.uk.

Alice Armstrong\, who was the Project Worker for the SSB Community Radio Project will be back in South Brent with Soundart Radio for this event\, which is part of a series of activities in our local area over the school holidays\, culminating in a beautiful\, co-created procession and immersive performance event on Sunday 2 January from 3-6pm at Dartington Hall\, created by the children for families to attend together. Join us this Winter to create a mysterious and wonderful pageant to celebrate the turning of the year. All welcome! \nSoundart is a licensed community radio station and an Ofsted registered holiday club. Our staff are qualified artists and all are DBS checked. Seasonal Spectacular is funded by Devon County Council’s Holiday Activities and Food programme\, and children eligible for free school meals will be prioritised. DESCRIPTION:Sunday 15 August 2021: Led bike ride from South Brent to Ashburton and back\, starting from the Old School Community Centre\, South Brent at 10am. \nA ‘Big Bike Revival’ ride\, led by an experienced cyclist at an easy pace for the enjoyment of all riders along the proposed new safe cycle path extension of National Cycle Network route 2. The route links the three Dartmoor towns each with their own distinct character\, and the beautiful countryside of the lower moor. There will be a stop-over in Buckfastleigh for refreshments\, and later in Ashburton for lunch (total is about 18 miles return). Recently surveyed by Sustrans (the walking and cycling charity\, and the custodian of the National Cycle Network)\, the route has been proposed for development as a dedicated\, accessible cycle route\, to link the three towns into the overall network of cycling routes locally\, including provision of a safe cycle path to/from South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton. \n \nThe route will be mainly on-road and there are a few hills\, making the ride suitable for cyclists who are confident beginners with some experience and reasonable fitness.
