Environment and Climate Emergency – towards a Zero Carbon South Brent: Sustainable South Brent has created a ‘Zero Carbon South Brent sub-group’. The group will look to pursue further local measures/projects that help to reduce the carbon footprint of the parish, which is an ambition of the ‘Parish Plan 2016+’. This follows a number of key events including the publication of the IPCC special report on Climate Change in October 2018; the recent IPBES ‘Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services’ report in May 2019; David Attenborough’s programme ‘Climate Change: The Facts’ in April 2019; plus the unanimous declaration of an ‘Environment and Climate Emergency’ by parliament on 1 May 2019 in the wake of public pressure including the School Strikes for the Climate inspired by Greta Thunberg and Extinction Rebellion protests. If you are interested in being a part of ‘Zero Carbon South Brent sub-group’, or finding out more please email: jeremysabel@gmail.com.
At its meeting on 20 May 2019, South Brent Parish Council also declared an ‘Environment and Climate Emergency’. More to follow.
