Community Food Project
Short of time? Money? Ideas?
Overwhelmed by all the ‘healthy eating’ messages? OR
Got a passion for food, cooking, eating and want to volunteer?
The Food@SB project is here to ease stress around food shopping, cooking and eating. We do this in three ways:
1 Building confidence and budget cooking skills through informal, hands on cook and eat workshops for those families of primary school age children who are temporarily or permanently finding life extra challenging.
2 Organising social eating events where all in South Brent (SB) can come together to share food, swap recipes and enjoy meeting new people.
3 Exploring food stories – from where has your food travelled to arrive in South Brent?
So whatever your passion around food, eating, cooking or story telling, please get in touch.
We have recruited 5 volunteers with a passion for food and we are looking for more to support the workshops, events and story activities.
Karin Jordan is the Food@SB worker (part-time) and keen to hear from you whatever your interest.

Half-term food workshop and café from 9.30am - 2.00pm in the Old School Community Centre. Following the very successful Harvest half-term workshop and cafe this will be a similar event: Children are invited to be chefs for the morning and more senior members of the village are warmly invited to sample the food by coming to lunch. Easter Holiday Café and Kids’ Cooking Workshop run by the SSB food project in the Old School Community Centre. Calling all young chefs! - Children’s cooking workshop runs from 10am -12 (over 8s may be unaccompanied; under 8s with parents/carers please). Tuesday 22 October 2019: Half Term Harvest Lunch Café and Kids’ Cooking Workshop run by the SSB food project in the Recreation Pavilion at Palstone Park. Children’s cooking workshop runs from 10am -12noon (over 8s may be unaccompanied; under 8s with parents/carers please). Saturday 21 August 2021: ‘Tickle Your Taste Buds’: A Creative Fun Food and Wildlife Activity Workshop from 11am-1.30pm under the Art House Gazebo at the Old School Community Centre, led by Karin Jordan, SSB’s Community Food Worker.
