DESCRIPTION:Meeting at 2pm Saturday 5th August at the Marsh (SWW site) off Exeter Rd. \nNB There are some changes to the timing of this event. \n \nWe’ll be scything the meadow and clearing the arisings which we will take to the compost site. Meet at the Marsh composting Site\, off Exeter Road at 2 pm (note changed time due to the rain forecast in the morning\, which\, although it will still be breezy\, will\, hopefully have passed over). \nYou will have an opportunity to have a go at scything or hone your technique. Any and all help with raking and clearing is greatly appreciated. Do bring a rake if you wish! No dogs\, please. DESCRIPTION:Saturday 11th March from 10am – Scything at the Marsh Meadow  \nWould you like to help give nature locally a bit of a helping hand? Come along to the Marsh meadow (past the Compost site)\, where SSB’s 4Bs have been managing the land\, on behalf of South West Water\, in order to increase biodiversity. \nThis will be the third cut for a couple of patches\, and it is already having a noticeable effect. DESCRIPTION:Monday 13th February from 10am – School Garden Renovation: and possibly also the next day (Tuesday 14th Feb) \nSSB’s School Garden Project has been helping local Primary school children grow food\, and enjoy outdoor space\, since 2009. The volunteers have a regular commitment to the project. Occasionally\, extra\, one-off needs arise\, and we are at one of those times. These are the areas where help is requested. \nThis is what could be done: \n\nCut back\, and renovate\, a willow ‘den’ so that children can play in it again.\nPrune some branches off an apple tree\, to let in more light and air.\nReduce a tree (field maple).\nLay a short length of hedge (with instruction and help).\n\nTools will be provided.  Please bring gardening gloves\, and a drink and snack\, if you plan to stay for long. \nNo dogs please! DESCRIPTION:Saturday 24 July 2021: ‘Bike Bus’ to Dartmoor for Bike Bus ride 1: from Combestone Tor. Minibus and bike-trailer transport for riders and their bikes up on Dartmoor National Park for a ride from Combestone Tor via Holne and Hembury to Buckfastleigh. Including picnic and short talk from former Natural History Museum head entomologist\, Malcom Scoble. Participants from South Brent may then ride back ‘under their own steam’ or return to Brent on the bike bus. Pick-ups: 9am: South Brent (Palstone Park) (5 people): 10.15am Buckfastleigh (Woodholme Car Park) (5 people). \nThis is a FREE group\, social\, bike ride\, and is suitable for cyclists with some experience – you do NOT need to be an expert cyclist.
