SUMMARY:Led cycle ride from South Brent to Ashburton return
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 15 August 2021: Led bike ride from South Brent to Ashburton and back\, starting from the Old School Community Centre\, South Brent at 10am. \nA ‘Big Bike Revival’ ride\, led by an experienced cyclist at an easy pace for the enjoyment of all riders along the proposed new safe cycle path extension of National Cycle Network route 2. The route links the three Dartmoor towns each with their own distinct character\, and the beautiful countryside of the lower moor. There will be a stop-over in Buckfastleigh for refreshments\, and later in Ashburton for lunch (total is about 18 miles return). Recently surveyed by Sustrans (the walking and cycling charity\, and the custodian of the National Cycle Network)\, the route has been proposed for development as a dedicated\, accessible cycle route\, to link the three towns into the overall network of cycling routes locally\, including provision of a safe cycle path to/from South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton. \n \nThe route will be mainly on-road and there are a few hills\, making the ride suitable for cyclists who are confident beginners with some experience and reasonable fitness. See: ssb.org.uk/event/sustrans-led-cycle-ride-from-south-brent-to-ashburton-return/. \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFREE\, but places are limited and you must book in advance via the Eventbrite booking system –  go to  www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cycle-ride-connecting-3-south-dartmoor-towns-tickets-166306632615 or scan QR code \n

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that the Apple a Day Orchard at the Doctor’s Surgery has now been scythed but we want to give an opportunity to you all to try scything for yourself. \nPlease come along at 10am to the wildflower verge outside the play park to try scything for yourself. You can also help in other ways such as raking up the grasses and loading into dumpy bags. Please bring your own rakes and dumpy bags if you have them. We will transport the grasses/wildflowers to the Marsh Composting Site. Please let me know if you intend coming on the day so I get an idea of numbers. If you need to find us on the day call: 07950 376368. \n\nPlease do not bring dogs. Children are welcome to watch but cannot participate.\nAll participants must stay at least 1m from each other at all times. SUMMARY:Active Hope Course (October - December 2021)
DESCRIPTION:Active Hope Course; Thursday evenings; 5.30-8.30pm: Dates:7 & 21 October; 4 & 18 November; 2 & 9 December. – Would you like to make a positive difference for future generations so life on our planet\, but feel overwhelmed\, burned-out\, paralysed or numbed by the enormity of the challenges? This course is for people wanting to influence change to make a positive difference for future generations. We are in a climate and environmental crisis; the recent IPCC report states that we are on code red – climate change is real\, present and lasting\, with effects almost certain to worsen through the coming decades. This all sounds so alarming. There is an urgency to act! ………yet action without reflection\, calmness and clear thinking can be wasteful and burn you and others up. These workshops are a safe place to be with our feelings\, helping us to stay grounded\, connected and responsive to what’s happening in our lives\, our communities and our world. The course will be on-line via Zoom. It is highly interactive\, and is based on the work of Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone\, to address the urgent crisis we face – “Exploring how to face the mess we’re in without going crazy”. The group will be facilitated by Jeannie Hodder\, Leadership Coach and Facilitator. Payment is on a donation basis (offerings at the end of the course). Participants are expected to commit to the whole course and spaces are limited (max. 12 places) so booking is essential. To make a booking or for more information\, please contact: Jeannie via coaching@jhodder.co.uk and please include a few sentences about why you want to join and what you hope to achieve from joining the group.
