SUMMARY:Community Market Garden and Orchard Volunteering
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nThe Community Market Garden and Orchard project are planning Regular Volunteer Days\, twice a month\, on the Third Thursday of each month from 4pm to 7pm and the Last Saturday of each month from 10am to 3pm\,  \nCome and visit the 10-acre site in its amazing setting. See what we’ve done so far and get to know the land by joining us to work there for an hour or two if you can. \nWe’re growing potatoes again this year\, and garlic\, and are working on plans for a much broader range of vegetables and other crops in future years once legal formalities for the land are complete and we can begin fundraising. The project needs many different kinds of skills and interests. There’s lots to be done through the summer\, from weeding\, mulching and trimming to (we hope) harvesting. Or come and meet us just as an interested supporter as the project continues to develop. \nBring snacks and drinks\, gloves and tools\, and wear stout waterproof footwear. Sorry\, no dogs on the site please. Drop in for as long as you want! \nFFI email marketgarden@ssb.org.uk \nTo find out more about Community Market Garden and Orchard the see the project page: https://ssb.org.uk/projects/market-garden-orchard/ \n

SUMMARY:Seed Swap extra! - Free Seed Saving Talk
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 1 July 20206: Seed Swap extra! – Seed Saving – Free talk: in the Methodist Church School Room at 7pm \nOur speaker is Robyn Minogue\, who is a grower at School Farm\, Dartington\, the celebrated local organic market garden. Robyn is part of the Gaia Foundation’s Seed Sovereignty Programme and has specialist experience of seed growing\, working freelance across the agroecological sector to promote regenerative food systems. \nSouth Brent Seed Swap has been put to bed for another year\, but we’re now looking forward to future events (our fifth Seed Swap will be in February 2027) and thinking how we can get even more people involved in growing and saving their own seeds\, both for their own use and swap with others. Successful seed saving is a satisfying and important step towards a more resilient food economy – and can save money too! \nDo take the opportunity to join us\, to learn tips and tricks and find out all you need to know about successful seed saving. Organised by the Seed Saving Collective; \n  \n  \nFFI contact Carol – halfmoonfield@planetmail.com or call 0790 066 6094.

SUMMARY:South Brent Screening of "The People's Emergency Briefing"
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 5 July 2026: The People’s Emergency Briefing’ \nin the Village Hall from 5-7pm. \nScreening of an eye-opening\, ground-breaking\, must-see\, film featuring Chris Packham and ten leading UK scientists and experts\, presenting clear\, evidence-based insights on the growing risks to our weather\, food\, health and cost of living. It reveals the stark reality of the threats posed to humanity by the climate and biodiversity crises – and the ways we can all respond to them. \nThe 50-minute film will be followed by an optional\, facilitated\, open discussion – a chance to voice how we think and feel about it all. The first step in an urgent\, large-scale campaign to build an irresistible call for a national televised briefing\, so every household hears the same evidence. \nBackground: Last November in Westminster\, ten of the UK’s leading experts briefed an invited audience of over 1\,200 politicians and leaders from business\, culture\, faith\, sport and the media. The event was covered by ITV\, C4\, and the Times. It set out the implications of changing climate and nature breakdown for health\, food systems\, national security and the economy. \n  \nOur MP Caroline Voaden and South Hams District Council both fully support this campaign. \nYou can watch a 1 min YouTube trailer at https://youtu.be/9tLUnWHkGG4. \n \n“This film isn’t designed to sow fear. It’s about hope. It’s about knowledge as power. The opportunity for grown-up conversations. So our political leaders can no longer pretend it’s business as usual\, bow to industry lobbyists and kick the can on decisions that affect our very survival through this decade and beyond.” – Sarah Daly. \nFor age 16 or over only. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFFI email neb@itsorted.org.uk\, and to book a free seat go to www.itsorted.org.uk/neb/ or scan the qr code \n  \n  \n(NB. This is not an SSB event)
