DESCRIPTION:Sundays 11 & 25 October and 8 & 22 November 2026:  \nThe first four Autumn activities for Sustainable South Brent’s Hedges and Woodland Group will be Hedge-laying sessions at a site beside the Buckfastleigh Road\, just under a mile outside the village beyond Hillside. \nThe sessions run from 10am until approx. 3pm. \nAll are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Tools\, equipment and training are provided. \nWe are a friendly group enjoying the traditional practices of hedge and woodland conservation and learning the craft skills of outdoor working. \nAll we ask is that if you have not worked with us regularly before you arrive in good time at the beginning of the session (10am prompt) for an initial briefing. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Fair Share: from 2.30pm at Palstone Park Rec. \nAn opportunity for residents of South Brent and the surrounding area to access affordable\, good quality surplus (in date) produce\, minimising food waste and landfill. \nEveryone is welcome; You’ll be asked to check in each time\, and there is a suggested donation of £3.50. (The food is free but we need to pay transport and rent). For that you can get at least 10 items of food and groceries\, from a selection of produce that changes every week and includes a selection of fruit and vegetables and store cupboard essentials. If you feel you would like to donate more than £3.50 you are welcome to. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 21 October 2026: Seed Pack and Chat for the 2027 Seed Swap: \nFollowing our very successful and informative talk on Seed Saving\, by Robyn Minogue\, in July\, and a first sorting and packing session over tea and cakes in September\, we’re hoping more South Brent gardeners and growers have been inspired to save and dry some vegetable and flower seeds for our 2027 Seed Swap in the Old School on Saturday 6 February. \nAll seeds welcome: peas\, beans\, salad crops\, herbs\, tomatoes\, flowers or whatever you have. \nSo\, drop in at the Church Room (through the main lychgate at St Petroc’s and turn left along the path) from 6.30-9pm – with your well dried\, saved seeds – and pack them for the 2027 Seed Swap. \nThis is a great opportunity to swap information and tips on plants and seeds\, and to start looking forward to a new growing season together. \nBring saved\, well-dried seeds if you have some: vegetable\, flower and herb seeds all welcome \nWe will have custom-made South Brent Seed Swap envelopes into which seeds can be packed in small quantities and labelled\, all ready for the Seed Swap next February. \nDrinks and snacks available\, and lots of chat! \nOrganised by the Seed Saving Collective\, with support from SSB. \nFor further information phone 07900 666074.

DESCRIPTION:South Brent Repair Café from 9.30-11.50am in the Old School Community Centre. \n  \nPlease bring us some items to mend\, for example: \n\nyour squeaky bike for oiling and a puncture to repair\nthat shirt that needs some buttons\na toaster that insisted on burning your bread every single time\nthe ceramic ornament that you were given for Christmas and promptly broke\nthe kitchen knives that are embarrassingly blunt (max of 3\, unless our volunteer sharpeners are not busy)\ndad’s old shears that won’t even open\, let alone cut a twig\nyour favourite necklace that needs restringing\na leather bag with a loose strap\n\n  \n  \nIf you can carry it\, we will have a go at mending it! Our team of skilled volunteer repairers offer their services for free\, with a café with hot drinks and delicious cakes and savouries to enjoy while your item is being repaired. Bring up to 2 small household items for repair. All for free\, although we welcome donations to help cover costs. \nThe Repair Cafe usually runs on the second Saturday morning of January\, March\, May\, July\, and September plus the first Sunday in November.
