DESCRIPTION:South Brent Climate Fair 2020 – initially scheduled for Saturday 18 April this event\, long planned by Sustainable South Brent supported by South Brent Parish Council\, Rattery Parish Council and South Brent Community Energy Society\, was postponed during the lockdown until Saturday 5 September 2020. However\, in view of the continuing uncertainty about such large gatherings\, a decision has now been taken by the organising group to postpone again and\, depending on the situation\, to make a final decision in November as to whether the event will run.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday 14 March 2020: ‘What’s 1 Degree to Me?’ Shadow puppetry workshop from 10.30am-4pm in Meadowbrook Community Centre\, Dartington. This free\, fun\, informative\, creative workshop led by Kate Stubbs from Light Bulb Fantastic\, is for adults and children to learn what climate change is\, its causes\, effects and what we can try to do about it and explore misconceptions that participants may have about global warming. Participants will create their own shadow puppets and shadow puppetry scenes in small teams\, which they can perform to each other and video on their phones to share with friends or on social media. DESCRIPTION:Saturday 18 January 2020: ‘What can you do about your CO2?’ in Ugborough Village Hall from 12.15-1pm\, after Sustainable Saturday. Greener Ugborough Parish welcomes David Roe in a public talk highlighting how we might determine our carbon footprint and practical steps we can take to reduce it. Carbon footprint\, sustainability\, CO2 emissions\, life cycle analysis – these all sound bewilderingly complex. David will boil these terms down for us\, help us digest them and impart positive steps we can all practically take. David has spent the last 25 years working with businesses ranging from the National Trust through to the Eden Project to help them to reduce their energy use and waste. Here\, with a balance of humour and the deadly serious\, David will range from washing up\, jetting to the sun\, buying online and going vegan – sometimes with unexpected results – but always based on facts and science. A free event open to all\, with no booking required. Donations towards Greener Ugborough Parish very welcome.

Millions of school children and students across the globe have struck to demand an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate justice for everyone. At the beginning of a week of actions\, today’s Climate Strike\, with the TUC calling on workers to join in and support them with a 30 minute stoppage at lunchtimes and before & after work\, promises to be the biggest yet. There will be events in Exeter at 11am in Bedford Square\, Princesshay (see Facebook) and Plymouth at 12 noon at the Starbucks entrance to Drakes Circus (see Facebook). The following week will see the UN Youth Climate Summit on Saturday 21 September and UN Climate Action Summit on Monday 23 September 2019.
