DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Fair Share: from 2.30pm at Palstone Park Rec. \nAn opportunity for residents of South Brent and the surrounding area to access affordable\, good quality surplus (in date) produce\, minimising food waste and landfill. \nEveryone is welcome; You’ll be asked to check in each time\, and there is a suggested donation of £3.50. (The food is free but we need to pay transport and rent). For that you can get at least 10 items of food and groceries\, from a selection of produce that changes every week and includes a selection of fruit and vegetables and store cupboard essentials. If you feel you would like to donate more than £3.50 you are welcome to. There is free parking on site at the Rec. \nThe main supplier is Fareshare SouthWest\, a national charity that redistributes surplus food from the food industry to community groups. \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThis is a volunteer led project\, if you are interested in volunteering\, please email tuesdayfairshare@ssb.org.uk. DESCRIPTION:Friday 17 April 2026: ’Plankton\, Climate and Gaia’ \nThe 6th talk in SSB’s Nature/Wildlife series at 7.30pm in the main hall at Old School Community Centre. \nDr Frances Hopkins from the Plymouth Marine Laboratory will talk about how marine life helps to regulate our planet. \nEarth’s climate is shaped not just by winds and oceans\, but by life itself. Dr Hopkins will introduce the remarkable world of microscopic marine plankton – the tiny organisms that produce half of the oxygen we breath\, absorb vast amounts of carbon dioxide\, and even help clouds to form. \nDrawing on Gaia theory\, which explores how life and the environment interact to keep earth habitable\, she will show how the earths ‘invisible forest’ plays a central role in regulating our climate. She will explain how her research uncovers the chemical conversations between the sea and the sky and how these delicate feedbacks are being affected by climate change. \nA fascinating\, hopeful journey into the hidden systems that keep our planet in balance. \nAll welcome; Refreshments available; \nDonations help us do more!
