DESCRIPTION:Dartmoor Local Plan Consultation Drop-in Event from 4-7pm at the Old School Community Centre\, South Brent. The Local Plan is an important document which sets out what type of development is and isn’t acceptable in the National Park. It is what DNPA will use to decide planning applications and sets out where future development may take place. You will be able to chat with DNPA staff about the plan and how it might affect you and the local community. The final draft of the plan is being published for public consultation from 16 September – 1 November 2019 and will be available to view and comment on at www.dartmoor.gov.uk/living-and-working/planning/planning-policy/local-plan-review\, as well as at Parish Councils and visitor centres across Dartmoor. DESCRIPTION:Brent Island Silver Jubilee Fair from 2-5pm on The Island. Celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the purchase of the Island by Brent Island Trust. Refreshments\, including barbecue\, cream teas\, bar and soft drinks; entertainment including activities for children\, displays by local wildlife and other groups\, etc. and stalls from village organisations such as Sustainable South Brent\, South Brent & District Caring; Westcountry Rivers Trust and Dartmoor National Park Authority. Live music from South Brent’s Wild Harmony’; Brent Singers; U3A Ukulele Group; John Van der Kyste and others. Admission Free. Brent Island\, a three-acre area of meadow and woodland surrounded by the River Avon\, was bought by the community\, with the help of grants and donations\, for the sum of £25\,000 in April 1994. DESCRIPTION:Dartmoor National Park volunteering opportunity – ‘Ditch Dig’ (10.00am – 3.00pm) clearing the essential drainage gullies with spades and shovels before the winter! We are then going onto clear drainage on the Corringdon Ball Gate track in South Brent afterwards from 1.30pm\, if you can!). Meeting at 10am at the bottom of Ivybridge’s Stowford Lane (Two Moors Way) GR SX 642569. \nAll tools and gloves\, and light refreshments are provided. Please ‘dress for Dartmoor’ and bring a packed lunch and drink if you are joining us for the day. If you know that you have a friend coming along\, please car share where possible. SUMMARY:Hydrosapien: a watery arts celebration produced by SSB's Laura Denning
DESCRIPTION:Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September 2018: Hydrosapien. A celebration of our oceans\, seas\, rivers and all watery places produced by local artist Laura Denning. Two live performances in Plymouth bring a Silent Choir (using sign language (BSL)) and a duet of experimental voice artists (Iris Garrelfs & Joseph Kohlmaier) to present a 30 minute event. The work aims to push the boundaries of how sound can be understood\, whilst performing an adaptation of an essay entitled ‘Hydrofeminism’ (Astrida Neimanis 2012) as well as seeking new ways to engage people in broad environmental issues. The Friday performance is at 6pm at Plymouth Guildhall and the Saturday performance is at 2pm on Barbican Wharf. Both are free and all are welcome. Laura has teamed up with members of Plymouths’ D/deaf communities\, hearing communities\, conventional choirs and members of the public to create this choir. People new to BSL\, learners and those who use it every day are learning a short poem together\, with the help of a specially commissioned video tutorial\, and BSL interpreters.
