SUMMARY:‘Love Bittaford’ Community Environment Day
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 19 October 2019: ‘Love Bittaford’ Community Environment Day: In the morning\, there will be a Pop-up Café where everything is free\, from 10.30am-12.30pm in Bittaford Church\, with homemade cakes\, quality teas and coffees and a children’s play corner. In the afternoon from 12.30-1.30pm (gather at the church at 12.15pm)\, there will be community projects – litter picking\, path clearing etc. (please bring garden glove\, secateurs etc.). There will be an early evening event from 6.30 – 8.00pm in the Village Hall\, led by different groups and environmental experts to support and advise on living with care for the environment\, while saving money at the same time. These will include a talk on what we can do to help in the climate emergency from John Green (Low Carbon City Officer\, Plymouth City Council); a presentation by Catherine Causley (DCC Reuse Project officer) on living more sustainably including a hands on re-using plastics display; advice on energy saving and greener energy from Katie Reville (South Devon Community Energy);plus a volunteer from Christians Against Poverty\, a charity with a specific purpose of helping those in debt. DESCRIPTION:Friday 20 September 2019: Global Day of Climate Action. Millions of school children and students across the globe have struck to demand an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate justice for everyone. At the beginning of a week of actions\, today’s Climate Strike\, with the TUC calling on workers to join in and support them with a 30 minute stoppage at lunchtimes and before & after work\, promises to be the biggest yet. There will be events in Exeter at 11am in Bedford Square\, Princesshay (see Facebook) and Plymouth at 12 noon at the Starbucks entrance to Drakes Circus (see Facebook). The following week will see the UN Youth Climate Summit on Saturday 21 September and UN Climate Action Summit on Monday 23 September 2019.

This follows a survey conducted by Mervyn for Dartmoor National Park to help plan for the control of invasive alien species (Himalayan Balsam and ‘American Skunk-Cabbage’ in particular but also noting Japanese Knotweed and Monkeyflower).
